With the late summer sun lasting well into October, it feels like the festive season has come around even more quickly than usual this year, bringing with it the inevitable onslaught of social occasions to fit in, work parties to attend and all-round prep for the big day itself.

With so much to do, it can be easy to forget to make time to revel in the magic of this time of year and enjoying the festive cheer that really makes Christmas so special.

A trip to Regent Street and St James’s – which boasts a charming selection of shops and restaurants all set amongst an impressive light display – is a fun and easy way to get into the spirit of the season.

Here’s how to get the most out of your visit.

See the iconic Christmas lights

The Crown Estate

There are few Christmas light displays as iconic as the installations that illuminate London’s charming West End every year.

The first official spectacle of this kind to come to the capital back in 1954, the display transforms the area into a festive wonderland. ‘The Spirit of Christmas’ – a mesmerising canopy of 50 large-scale spirits – can be found glittering above Regent Street, St James’s, Piccadilly, Jermyn Street and St James’s Market.

This year, there’s even more of it to enjoy, with the display reaching new locations over Glasshouse Street, Quadrant Arcade and Swallow Street.
